A postgraduate diploma is a postgraduate qualification that follows a university degree and awards a graduate diploma.

Several institutes and universities in India offer postgraduate diploma programs (PG Diploma). These postgraduate diploma programs are typically one year in length, with 2 to 4 semesters depending on the number of hands-on training, fieldwork, and credit requirements. These are master's degree programs that focus solely on the essentials.

These programs are primarily designed to provide individuals with professional education and training to improve their employment prospects and industry readiness. It is intended to provide in-depth exposure to concepts, scientific principles, and new approach implementation methods. Postgraduate diplomas in Management, Postgraduate Diploma in Banking & Finance, Remote Sensing & GIS, Robotics, Industrial Maintenance Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Technology are PGDM courses offered in India.

Few institutes even offer postgraduate diploma programs which satisfy the credit requirements for a master's program while also allowing the students to take a greater number of lesser credit courses over two years; these programs are provisionally deemed equivalent to a master's degree. Postgraduate diploma programs are designed for those who have a bachelor's degree and want to expand their technical knowledge and those who have a master's degree and want to improve their interdisciplinary/translation knowledge.

IIMs provide various distance PGDM programs, including Post Graduate Programs, Certificate Programs, and Working Managers Programs. The cost of the training varies between INR 5,00,000 to INR 22,00,000.
